I can see a bunch of business men in a meeting saying "lets make a rap commercial for our product". This is the result of that meeting! With lyrics like "the fun is back oh-yes-sir-ree, its the 2600 from A-tar-i" how could this go wrong?
I believe this was released in the mid-80's after Nintendo started to gain popularity. The commercial advertises "under 50 bucks... now isn't that nice".
This was downloaded from consumptionjunction-com a few years ago.

  • I was like five when this commercial came out. Me and my older brother (nine) never had a videogame system before. Our parents were going to buy us one come Christmas. He wanted the NES because of Mario. I wanted the 2600 based on...hahahaha... based on this rap jingle. I knew nothing of the system, just that I actually liked this rap at the time. I'm glad my brother got his way. XD

  • Let's hear Eminnem rap about the Xbox.

  • @DaringDirk100

    This commercial is from 1986

  • @trailersic Ah, okay. yeah I meant the cart was in upside-down (label facing toward the player instead of away)

  • @IamTheS actually I think I just misunderstood you they do seem to putting it in the round way round, the label should be facing away, it's been a while since i used it I thought you were referring to the label being upside down.

  • @trailersic I didn't realize that's a different model than the one I own. Is that really how? Later in the commercial the game they're playing has its label facing the other way.

  • @IamTheS That's how you put the carts in.

  • Easy-E

  • @DaringDirk100 i dont think so cos they were for sale in actual department stores, im sure they had built in games it might have been right at the very end of ataris time so they thought what the hell and try and suck in some more fans before they finally died out by putting in a few built in games

  • @punji73

You're sure those aren't illegal, pirated, unofficial "Atari 2600s" that had all the games built in that you're thinking of?

  • I remember that the Atari 2600 was "re-released" in 1988, so this is probably when that ad is from. That was long, long after NES and Sega Master System launched. So it's crazy to think that they were re-releasing the 2600 long after two systems that were far technically superior had already launched.

  • @spotikas the ad mightve actually come out in the very early 90's cos they were for sale still then till round 91ish and the last models they ever made actually had heaps of atari games built into them and you selected which game by holding down the reset button i think until a random game started up and of you go
