http://www.nycewheels.com/dahon-folding-bike-dash-p18.html The Dahon Dash P18 is one of the sturdiest folding bikes we sell. The Dahon Dash P18 has a lock-jaw hinge on both frame tubes making this Dahon folding bike super fast and super solid. Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • I would like to ask whether dash can fit with the carryon cover?

  • @vassilihk I never tried it but I think, based on it's folded dimensions, that the Dash would fit in the CarryOn cover. If anyone else knows for sure, please feel free to chime in. -Peter

  • Hi guys, I hope you don't mind another question about the mini velos:

Would a mini velo like a Dash P18 or Smooth Hound fit in an airline safe suitcase? Even to fit my old Boardwalk in a suitcase, it was a really snug fit and I've had to remove the rear derailleur. I just can't visualize how a Dash P18 or Smooth Hound might fit without removing the fork (major hassle dealing with grease, readjusting bearings each time etc...). Have you had any experience with this? Thanks!

  • @vedranre No problem. It would require full dissasembly of the bike. Possibly even to the point of undoing the hinges so you can put two halves next to each other but certainly at least removing derailleur, handlebar, etc. -Peter

  • @vedranre Check out the IF Reach as well, its a similar design, stiffer then a single tube bike but not quite as stiff as the mini velo frame. Dahon needs to order bikes by the container and sales for those just didn't add up, I guess. -Bert

  • @nycewheels Thanks for your reply Peter! It's unfortunate that Dahon pulled back the mini velos. I hope they bring them back. My biggest complaint about most traditional Dahons has been the frame flex that's inherent in the single tube design. Also - I like to pull on the handlebars when climbing, and I can't really do that with the long steering tube on standard Dahons. Mini velos would solve those problems... It's a brilliant design, they really need to bring it back.

  • @vedranre The Smooth Hound and other midtown mini frame bikes would be ideally suited for higher weight applications thanks to the dual tube frame which adds a lot of strength and stiffness. The only variable is that (for 2012 at least) there will be no mini velos from Dahon. In the mean time I believe several people have done touring on the standard Dahon frames with success so they're not bad for it either. -Peter

  • Peter, I've been interested in Dahon's Smooth Hound as a possible transportable touring bike. Have you guys at Nycewheels had experience with Smooth Hound as a weight hauling bike? My concern is about the strength and handling of its aluminum frame under a load. I really like the diamond construction of Dahon's mini velos - much more than the Speed TR. Do you think Speed TR is still a better option for touring than Smooth Hound? Thanks!

  • @mousemousemousecat I'm not really sure why Dahon didn't decide on carrying it after all the work that went into it. It was certainly a super fun bike to ride. Probably it wasn't met with the demand they expected because it doesn't fold up so small. I don't know, I wish they were carrying it! -Peter

  • may i ask what happpened to this bike? why is it unavailable?...
