Dave Barry and Stephen King are on the same stage, and... what the hell are they doing and why is it so awesome?

That's a wig right?

I was at UCLA for both performances by the Remainders, and Amy Tan doesn't have a accent. I've met her three times in person and spoken with her, sorry no accent. The Remainders are all tongue in cheek and they perform for charity !! Also I dare anyone to say something like that in Amy's presence, she would unleash her hell hounds in a bag on you.

No. I think the poster below is right - u obviously aren't racist but you are being racially presumptuous. There is NOT a trace of accent in her voice. I've been around asians (AND caucasians) long enough to know asian accents. If u heard this woman on the phone for the first time, i doubt you'd know she's asian....which makes sense considering she was BORN AND RAISED in the US! U are forcing yourself to find an "accent" because u know she's asian. Let's not kid ourselves.

you dumbshit... why would Amy Tan have an "asian" accent--she was born and raised in northern california. it's unfortunate you spent all that time getting an MFA yet you still have no clue

There is an interview with Amy Tan on YouTube (Added: May 14, 2007 From: RockBottomRemainders Provided By: RockBottomRemainders) No trace of an accent that I can hear.

Ignore chenny87's comment. Maybe chenny87 just misunderstood what you were trying to say (though chenny87's comment was kind of harsh). I agree with you - the performance reminds me of Christmas Eve from Avenue Q. And I agree with you - perhaps part of the reason why the RBR chose Amy Tan for this song was because there's such a contrast between her wallflower past, her "Asian" upbringing, and her piano lessons?

FYI, I have an MFA in creative writing and am going to a writers' conference in Alaska this summer just to see Amy Tan. I know who she is & have no qualms with her being Asian. That said, there's definitely a trace of Asian accent. Listen closely when she sings "That's when I fell for." I find it humorous not because of the ethnicity itself, but because of the juxtaposition with my [likely incorrect] image of the song's original singer: rich white girl w/blond ponytail, poodle skirt, and bobbysocks.
It is definitely more likely that Amy Tan has a Californian accent than an "Asian" one, but I would like to challenge someone to define an "Asian accent." Do you know how BIG Asia is and how many different languages and dialects there are even within one Asian country? There is no such thing as an Asian accent.

Jesus, some people are just so ignorant, not to mention racially presumptuous.
FYI, Amy Tan is a critically acclaimed American writer. There's no 'Asian' accent here. The way there were PERFORMING is funny, but if she were white you'd just call her drunk.
