Aug. 26 -
The United States, Britain and NATO have condemned Russian President Dmitry Medvedev for recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, two breakaway regions in Georgia.

"This is not an easy choice to make, but it represents the only possibility to save human lives," Medvedev said Tuesday in a televised address.

He called on other countries to follow Russia's lead, which comes in the wake of the Russian-Georgian conflict which erupted earlier this month. But the decision was immediately denounced by the United States, Britain and NATO.

"I think it is regrettable," U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said during her visit to the Middle East. "It puts Russia, of course, in opposition to a number of [United Nations] Security Council resolutions to which it is party."

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the decision was "unjustifiable and unacceptable."

  • You reaally need to watch what are you saying, whos territory was abkhazia and osetia before soviet union? have you ever heard that oseatians and abkhazians settled down in Goergia's territory and that territory always was called Georgia?

what you are saying is such a fulishness made by Russia and whole world knows that and world will never recognize those states and very soon Russia will pay for all what they have done to all of us...

and RT you are such a leirs!!!

  • Why are we bickering and tensing up relations on a conflict smaller than the country of Georgia. Is it worth the lives of millions of a war not ours much less Europes? Someone needs to back down and if Russia won't then we should and then Russia should follow suit. This is stupid, dangerous and just rediculous!

  • Wow is this true? Damn I'll do some research but if its true then more power to ya. So then why does Georgia want S Ossetia and Abkhazia? Oil and money, thanks for solidifying my stance.

  • South Osetia and Abhazia were taken out of Russia and given to Georgia by dictator Stalin, himself Georgian. These lands have never legitimately been part of Georgia. People living them want to be independent or in federation with Russia. Georgia committed mass murder and destruction in these regions in 1991-92 and recently. These two provinces will never be part of Georgia or NATO.

  • lol.........russia wouldnt last 1 week if there was a world war 3. Their millitary artillery is old, their brigade is not as big as NATO alliance, and their millitary is not as well trained. It will be a heck of a war, and i'm sure russia will put up a good fight. But the west needs oil. And Russia has it. They would love Russia to start a war with them

  • Only one country which can destroy the NATO for 40 minutes - it is Russia... We will release the world from world terrorists of the uncle sam

  • Whats good for the Goose is good for the gander.

    Remember Kosovo?

  • Putin's puppet and the Soviets are embarking on a new Cold War. The Soviets are now threatining Poland with Nuclear attack. Fuck Russia, they are trying to reconstitute the Bad old days. This at a time when radical Islam has much of our attention. Radical Islam is a redundant phrase. Obama has no idea of how to deal with it. I miss Reagan.

  • Russia is back as the bully of the East. That is just what we need another fucking problem other than Islam. Fuck the commie sons a bitches. KGB is back. Cold war is back. Obama has no fucking idea what is going on in the world. Oh yeah Joe Biden is a moron good choice. Obiden 08.
