Ur horsey is so pretty :)

As for this lady's training technique, I'd much rather my horse be taught to side pass with low hands. Her advice was good, but I agree with Jordanoid202. This lady should have kept her hands out of the horse's mouth, as side passing should be encouraged by foot pressure, not the reins.
In conclusion, no, that is not how you "hold the reins and ride western".

Yes, it is a western bit..But that is not how you hold the reins while riding western. I've rode in the western discipline for 10 years, and any trainer will tell you to keep your hands low*...you never keep your hands up that high while riding a horse. It can cause severe discomfort for the horse, and a very unpleasant ride for both the horse and rider.

This was so helpful :D :D
It would be much more helpful to show how to do a sidepass with a green horse....I would have no idea how to start with a horse who doesn't already sidepass....
