*Please note that there are SPOILERS for many of Scorsese's films in this tribute*

What an exceptional director this man is. Often referred to as one of the greatest American filmmakers (which he is), Martin Scorsese is amongst the most passionate and fearless directors working today. Why fearless? He's not afraid to try new things. His genres can range from a violent crime film like Goodfellas or Casino, to family oriented love letter to cinema like 'Hugo.' It's undeniable that Scorsese knows how to make a damn good film no matter what genre or style. With this installment of 'The Works' I tried to focus on the tonal range of Scorsese's feature films along with the recurring themes that surround them.

Who's next? Here's a hint: Toothpick

  • You have an incredible knack for creating these montage/ sizzle reels. I work at a movie trailer company and I think you should seriously consider getting into this business.

  • @xazera I'm currently in film school, but I certainly plan on pursuing a career in editing after I graduate next year!

  • Its been a month and there is no Nicolas Winding Refn - The Works!!! I'm going cold turkey!!

  • @mmontebello1193 Don't worry it's coming :) I've just been super busy with other things. But'll be here soon.

  • @therealsaintseiya Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's. For some directors (particularly Scorsese) their work covers so many different genres and tones that finding that perfect song can be extremely difficult. However I do try my best to find tracks that relate to the works of these auteurs. Much like the films themselves, it seems that these tributes speak differently to people, particularly through the choices of music.

After watching eight Scorsese films in just the last two months, I need to take a breather. Just didn't know I would love Scorsese films so much.
  • My Scorsese list, as it currently stands:

    9.Shutter Island

    8.Departed

    7.Casino

    6.Aviator

    5.Hugo

    4.Last Temptation of Christ

    3.Raging Bull

    2.Goodfellas

    1.GANGS OF NEW YORK

  • I really like what you've done on these mash-ups. Im going to film school next year, and was wondering how you get the movie clips into final cut or whatever editing software you are using? I have a mac and I can't exactly figure out how to do it.

  • Great vid' !! but what's the music you used ?

  • I just saw Casino, and I am putting it in the number six spot, above Departed, but below Aviator. Good film, but I found the characters almost unlikable, and usually for the most part, Scorsese characters are more likable than that. Stll, loved De Nero, Stone and Pesci in their performances and it had a terrific screenplay.

  • 3. taxi driver

    2. casino

    1. raging bull
