On Bush/Cheney constantly lowering the bar and "We haven't been attacked since 9/11" . . .
FDR/Truman weren't satisfied with just stopping another attack.
They planned, asked EVERYBODY to sacrifice, and WON a world war! (in less time than we've been in Iraq!)
And they certainly didn't do the enemy's recruiting FOR them!

The difference between Truman and Bush is pretty clear cut and simple. Truman was literate and could quote Tennyson and knew Latin.Truman was a combat veteran of WWI, he served in the Senate, and created the "Truman Committee" that looked into defense contractors that were trying to rip off the goverment...how the hell does that compare with Bush!!!????...I think the only they have in common is that they liked their scotch on the rocks...

Me and my wife seen the History Channel documentary on the Presidents and I'd have to agree that just like with Truman, both Truman and Bush had dismal approval ratings, and we both agree that once Bush's time in office is done, history will look at Bush's adminstration the same way Truman's is now compared to when he was in office. Remember, there's still just under 1.5 years left in this adminstration and a lot can still happen (for better or for worse).

...then that's alright by me. If the like of FDR, Reagan, or TR had been in office the last two or three years, Tehran would have been a smoking crater by lunchtime.

Well, Truman is best known for dropping atom bombs on civilian targets. So, if that's the sort of comparison Bush wants....

Actually, it was Eisenhower who warned about the military-industrial complex. Truman helped give it to us when he created the CIA.
