I think he feels very alone and misunderstood. There's people around but they don't see the inside of him. Also, I agree with what wideopen704 said.

@PuLLxThexTriggeRrr I can't say for sure what its about, but I feel like Duritz is telling us about all the other things that are going wrong in his life, but that in a sense its always been that way, except that on that particular day it's raining, and he's overly reflective. Just a guess! Take it with a grain of salt!

It might be conceived a moment in life where one falls to there knees in desperation as the are giving up in what every they believe in. Try this as poetry this deep close you eyes clear you mind and try to figure out what it means to ur self b/c no one's views is the same as another persons.
