I once chased a gasser-Spektrum glitch for many weeks, adding ferrite cores and shielding braids everywhere to no avail. Finally found out it was due to the use of a spark-plug that did not have the "resistor" feature. (usually symbol "R" in spark-plug type numbers)

@jameshoffmandude I had tons of lockout with the Aurora 9 and so did several people at my local field. Funny how experiences are different in different areas. Spectrum has been rock solid for me.

Make sure theirs no poor connection because the prop making the air waves bounce the signal around iv had problems like that i looked at that and its better now but i lost the plane due to sudden't storms shame ....

I am thinking it is the EMF interference produced by the mag pick up. electronic ignition should fix it
-
are you sure its not the Magnetic pick up on the Engine?
-
bin it

yeah spectrum is just CRAPi am having problems with my dx6i not just loss of signal but also parts are literaly falling off of it so i switched to hitec aurora 9 it is awesome!!!

An added note to the previous statement. If you increase the engine RPM does the interference remain or does it go away? If it goes away then the interference will be at low frequencies and at higher frequencies due to higher RPMs the interference should go away. The only thing that I could suggest is an RF choke on the ignition, I don't know if this is used in practice but it should help preventing ignition frequencies from riding on the transmitter signals and locking out the receiver.

i have 1 simple suggestion , go back to your fm 27 , 40 mhz tx/rc they may be old but at least they work!

Since the receiver is doing this and not even in the plane, it is possible for the engine to emit what is called HF (Harmonic Frequencies) which can interfere with the receiver. Remember that the spark plug is not firing all the time but only when the ignition system is in demand and this would be in a digital frequency and with that would come the harmonic frequencies spawned off the original. So my question is how far away can you get the receiver from the aircraft before interference begins?
Doesn't seem to be just you guys and gas planes that have had problems with spectrum I've lost four edf s due to spectrum lockouts!! flying around nicely then from nowhere full throttle downwards no control whatsoever.....if you like your models don't use this junk....! Or your planes will be digging holes....

I GOT A CALL BACK TODAY FROM HORIZON. THEY HAVE MY DX-7 AND SOME OF MY RXS AND FLAT OUT TOLD ME IN 100 WAYS THAT THERE Spektrum DID NOT FAIL AND IT WAS MY FAULT! I WOULD RECOMMEND, NOT TO USE OR BUY ANY Spektrum OR J.R. PRODUCTS.

Well I have some bad news... I "thought" I fixed the problem. But it got hit and I put it straight into the ground. I don't know if i can fix this one... that sucks too it flew so sweet. got to start something new now..

is it all sorted now billy with the old plug, I'm concerned as I am doing the same thing as you, but using a futaba 6ex, just finished making a tuned pipe, welding 0.8mm alu is not fun, but makes for a light pipe, regds from Ireland

YES it works great now!!! just had a 12min flight on it today!! It flew just great with no hits or losses on the RX.
