Sometimes great performers are poor teachers. There are many big names in classical music in India who were terrible at grooming students. I guess they spend too much time on their own practice and performance careers to be attentive the the needs of students. They have to make a living of their music after all. I'm sure if the govt. of Afghanistan could have set up an academy that gave the Ustad a livelihood from teaching, things might have turned out differently.

HE WAS AN OK SINGER. I AM SORRY TO OFFEND ANY ONE. BUT EVERY TIME I COMPARE HIS VOICE WITH THE GREAT MOHAMMED RAFI OF INDIA IT BECOMES OBVIOUS THAT HE WASNT EVEN TEN PERCENT OF RAFI. MOHAMED RAFI SAHAB THATS THE NAME THAT BROUGHT SOUNDS OF HEAVENS TO EARTH

it's not always easy for the best performers to be the best teachers. even if you look at other major classical stars of india, not many of them have been the best teachers.

it's not true. most afghans love ustad's music. the new generation who is into afghan pop music are obviously are in a different line of music.
