For anyone else who's ever lost the rear lens cap off their Canon WD-H37II wide angle lens:

You need a 40.5mm slide-on or push-on lens cap. In Japanese, a 40.5mm かぶせ式レンズキャップ。 Sometimes written as カブせ式レンズキャップ or even just リアレンズカャップ。

I couldn't find what size cap is needed for the narrow end of one of these lenses anywhere on the web. Took some trial and error. Putting up this information on the off chance someone else needs it.

Canon WD-H37IIのリアレンズキャップを無くしたら、直径40.5mmのかぶせ式レンズキャップが必要。

  • mine came with a screw on 37(dia thread) lense cap just look for one of those those soft plastic push ons are weird

  • chrishimself84,

Your screw on lens cap, is it male or female? That is, does it screw into the lens or does it screw around the outside of one end of the lens?

  • its female, like the part on the camera itself.

  • chrishimself84,

Interesting. I could have gone for a 37mm screw on lens cap if I could have found one out there. As much as I Googled though, didn't see a lot of 37mm options. Any idea where I could find it?

When you say "mine", you're saying you've also got a WD-H37II? Or a different lens entirely?

  • Duct Tape.

  • 6663000,

    Messy, unfortunately.

  • mhh I bought it on eBay it was a cheap (around 15 Euro) wideangle lense for a 37mm filter.

maybe you can just buy one of those the brand is called "massa optics" and it says made in japan lol so if its 15 on eBay maybe you can find it for cheap somewhere in akiba and just use the lenscap.

  • cool. Didn't know that. Learned two japanese things today from your videos :P

    用 and 式 usages.

  • haha

Yea I agree, I wouldn't risk it on that nice lens.

  • JimmerSD,

Aye, there's a few stores around Ginza for classic cameras. Now that I know what size I need I can spend a little more money the when I lose this cap.

  • ManaStar,

Aye, that's the thing. No matter how far and wide I Googled, I couldn't find anyplace that had posted the information I needed for this lens. Might be folks out there who know cameras enough to know the answer, but no one else is posting the info.

Just now I Googled for "Canon WD-H37II lens cap" and this video came up. Mission accomplished.

  • Broan13,

Yep, that's exactly right. 「式」 shows up words for ceremonies, like graduation or wedding. It also shows up in words involving format, form factor, style, etc.
