Why's that then. Not enough superstars like Rooney, Ronaldinho and Ronaldo who do absolutely nothing apart from sell Snicker bars & Nike boots? Not a funky enough World Cup theme song?

But every WC since 1994 has been so much better than Italia 90! This was one of the poorest WCs of all time! It was also preceded by one the best ever WCs in Mexico 86. Having 8 groups instead of 6 was dubious, but in more recent WCs there have been more shocks and better contested games than there ever were in Italia 90 - teams now know that they have to play to win to proceed as one of the top 2 teams in the group, as the stupid strategy of playing safe and scraping through doesn't work

Boring matches (esp.with Italy, Rep of Ireland and Argentina)... Teams deliberately playing it safe to secure draws and in the later stages try their luck in the penalty shootout (esp. Rep of Ireland and Argentina)... Top teams faking, cheating and intimidating the officials (a la Argentina and W. Germany)... Record low number of goals scored ... Over-cautious, defensive play in most of the matches... Red and Yellow cards being handed out for fun... It was one the poorest World Cups ever

The last "good World Cup"?!?! Italia 90 was one of, if not, the worst World Cup ever! An absolutely dreadful competition!

Yeah and after they changed it to 8 groups instead of 6, it was never the same. World cups ended in 1994 as far as I'm concerned.
