Nope, it was filthy, shit everywhere. The horses shat everywhere, people emptied their chamber pots right out the front door. If you go on a dig in any pre industrial site , you'll know where the road is because of the centuries of shit that's been ground down by carriages and horse hooves.

Civilized? You had a 1/2 chance to survive childhood , a 1/5 chance to survive childbirth, you lost all your teeth by the time you were 30 and you were a withered hag by 50... and that's if you were rich.

Maybe you went a bit too far with this statement, but in general, I agree. And when it comes to music, now classical music seems to people as high end of art. And back in XVIII century, it was plain entertainment for plain folks. For example Italian opera- now considered to be sth. so sophisticatd, was just a show, where people drank, ate, talked etc. That's why overtures of classical Italian music is so loud and vigorous- it was supposed to tell people "shut the hell up, we're about to start".

Yes, they were the "rock stars" of their day and often acted just as badly. I love that they called Vivaldi the Red Priest and they called Tartini's violin sonata in G minor the "devils trill sonata." As if.

They don't make music like this today. We have a music INDUSTRY that pumps out mindless electronic pop. Yes, it is as you say it was, but is was REAL. Perhaps that's the reason music like this was possible. I can't even listen to the "rock and roll" of my youth. I see it now for what it is, simple folk music. Give me Mozart 24/7 and I'll be happy. Thanks.

Luigi Boccherini of course, was the best cellist of the time (xviii) late 1700` . while today your brain is fried with bad reality tv and electronics and your body is poison by mgo and chemicals in your food and water. while average thinking skills are reduced to monkey and bong level. something to be proud of. sure.
