A few minutes of gameplay, of Bethesda's Terminator: Future Shock.

I haven't played this in a while, so I'm a bit out of practice.
In any case this game is awesome. It used one of the first true full 3D engines, called XnGine, which was also used for the sequel SkyNet, and Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall, Elder Scrolls Legends: Battlespire and Elder Scrolls Adventures Redguard, and a couple of racing games they made back in the mid/late 90's.

What's really special about this game, are the enormous maps. Compared to other FPS's at the time, the maps are incredibly big, and a lot less linear. There is also a map where you drive a car, which makes it probably one of the first FPS's with a "driving scene" as some like to call it today, and there's also even a flying part.

The reason to that it ended in that way, is that the damn thing crashed.

For those interested, I used Dosbox 0.72 to play and capture this video.

EDIT:
Blargh, I know understand why so many users get pissed off at the quality of their videos...

  • Okay, how did you get the resolution to look so good? I play future shock on DosBox and it doesn't look anywhere near this good. What is your secret???

  • @LetsPlayStarcraft Unfortunately, I don't remember, and I don't have that particular .conf file any longer. But it doesn't really look any different with my current setup, so try setting the output to overlay, and on fullresolution use your screens native res.

  • Bethesda needs to make a new terminator game, with Elder Scrolls quality graphics and Fallout style gameplay!

  • The first fps with the gun on your right side (in stead of in the middle) (May be Star Wars: Dark forces or Tekwar were a little bit earlier). Real 3D enemies (no sprites). Huge levels. But it was a liitle bit too colorless and some people didn't like it because of the 'boring' graphics. Most underestimated game ever.

  • God I remember playing this back in the day. It was pretty good but I got stuck on a level and stopped playing it. Is there a flying stage or something in this?

  • A GOOD Terminator game? Well that's a first.

  • OMFG, this was made by Bethesda!! KEWWWLLLL!! Please make another one!

  • There's a way to make this game look even better: install Skynet AFTER installing Future Shock. The Skynet instalation will ask if you have Shock installed. Say yes, and install Skynet.

Now, when starting a new game on Skynet, you can select Future Shock. Since Skynet supports higher resolution using VESA, you'll play Future Shock at great graphics for a Dos game. :)

  • bethesda always makes good games, but why was fallout one not like this

  • Dude, those gun sprites looks EPIC! Why haven't they been used in a Doom mod yet?

  • Looks Cool for that time
