Step by step instructions demonstrating how to disassemble the Kel-Tec PLR-16 .223 pistol for cleaning and reassemble it when finished. Some basic cleaning procedures are discussed but not specifically demonstrated. The video shows some tips and tricks not completely detailed in the PLR-16 Owner's Manual, which is a very good basic guide with all the information you need. Sometimes, it's easier to learn things like this from a video, but please read the PLR-16 manual. This video is a supplement to the manual, and if there are any differences between the video and the manual, trust the manual, and not this video.

  • I see you have the caseing deflector type operating handle. How well does it work?

  • @MAGNUMxModz The case deflecting operating handle works well enough on the PLR-16. It may be solving a non-problem on the PLR-16, as the round handle doesn't seem to kick brass back into the open ejection port on the PLR-16. I mostly bought it because I wanted a larger area for my finger, to be more ergonomic. Some SU-16 owners have said that the round handle causes the occasional jam, and they prefer the forward ejecting operating handle.

  • Thank you! Great job, great video! Keep em coming! Have you shot it much? I've shot mine in 2 different occasions and have put over 2k rounds thru mine and love it!

  • @punisher5007 I have shot my PLR-16 quite a bit, and others have shot it even more. It's popular at the range! I have well over 5K rounds through mine. I did recently replace the firing pin (free from Kel-Tec). Otherwise, 100% reliable after a brief break in where it liked only high power ammo,

You put over 2000 rounds through your PLR-16 in two range sessions?!? Wow! That must be some kind of record. Are you sure you don't have a PLR-22? :-)

  • How stable is the hand guard? is it solid enough for a laser to hold zero when firing or in-between cleanings?

  • @opisex The polymer forend made by Kel-Tec is very stable on the PLR-16 It looks the same on the SU-16, but the mounting is different and I found it to be too insecure. But on the PLR-16, it's good. Normal cleaning really isn't much of an issue with laser aim and return to zero because the forend isn't removed during normal cleaning. Every 1000 rounds or so, I'll pull it off and clean the carbon around the gas block. Even then, I doubt there's a problem with the zero of a laser.

  • Hey, Just want to say great job on the video...I use this to double check my work and make sure I do my cleanings accurately. Thanks again!

  • Awesome video, thank you. I will have this video preped and ready everytime I clean mine. I'm not new to guns but I always listen to the masters. Cheers Liberty4ever.

  • Kydex? Yes, that would be great idea...I was thinking about a "Hans Solo" / deep hip holster as well.

  • @rjc071 Stellar Holsters was making a model, but I don't know if they still make it or not. I've thought about making a drop holster for the PLR-16 using Kydex. It'd be a thigh holster, ala Han Solo. :-) It'd be great for our open carry litter pickups!
