NEW JANUARY VIDEO, PLEASE GO AND CHECK IT OUT! Thankyou for your support!

For over ten years, Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue has been committed to rescuing and re-homing stray, abandoned and ex-racing greyhounds and lurchers. They operate a 'no kill' policy believing that no animal should be put to sleep because a home cannot be found immediately or because veterinary treatment may be too expensive.
Here are just a few of the dogs currently available, they are constantly coming in and are difficult to re-home as people know little of the breed.
Greyhounds really are gentle giants and need minimal walks, they release energy in short bursts so one 20 minute walk a day is just fine. Many of the dogs are young as racing greyhounds are only raced up to a top age of five years. Many don't even make it so are thrown out at a very young age. There are also the older dogs who really do deserve a chance, greyhounds develop few problems compared to other breeds and although big tend to sleep for most of the day.
Please, help your local greyhound re-homing centre. They really do need you.

  • I got my first greyhound 15 years ago when an idiot I worked with lied to the adoption group about having two cats. Meg arrived on the Saturday afternoon and when idiot-woman came downstairs Sunday morning it was to a scene of carnage and she had two less cats. She phoned me and asked if I could take her until she was collected by the rescue people and she sort of stayed :-)

Sadly she died 3 years later (I still miss her) but I've had rescue greys ever since (and an abandoned Saluki).

  • @longdog65 You really wonder what she was thinking, no doubt she was surprised :( Lucky for Meg that she had you to stand by her and give her a home!

  • We have adopted an ex racer. She has been with us for just over a year and is PERFECT. We would never have another breed now. Got any nice boys looking for a wife and prepared to move down south? You do great work and Tia is one of our fave sites

  • Sorry it's taken me so long to reply! There's some gorgeous dogs in Tia at the moment, if you could spare the time to come up and see them... *hem*

Tia don't do home inspections so the adoption is down to whether Debra thinks you are a good match for the dog. There's a fantastic looking boy whose currently in a fost home, he's called Old Ted (I think), greyhound x great dane. FANTASTIC looking guy!

  • we adopted a greyhound from tia 3 years ago a brindle we called him jed but in his past life at tia he was called gerald he was a lovley dog but sadly we had to have him put to sleep on the 14th november has he was diagnoised

with bone cancer and it had already spread so with a sad heart we had him put to sleep but we are missing him so much that we are going back to tia to get another a.s.a.p

  • I am so sorry for you, I can't imagine how awful that must have been. You gave him a lovely home and a second chance, probably more than he ever dreamt of!

  • Its so easy to find a new best friend. Cofte my little lurcher is a rescue. He was the smallest in a litter of 7 and has a cigarette burn on his shoulder. He's an amazing little dog and is great with our cat. Just watch him play with Ollie.

  • I hope these beauitful dogs have family homes by now. I have a rescue grey and he's the best decision I ever made. Greys are utterly awesome dogs - gentle, sweet, undemanding and fun. It's a privilege to care for him.

  • Tutu is lovely!!!!

  • do you ever rehome to working homes .
