why is the the one fa 18 above decks makes you think wow which idiot didnt tie that down when it goes off the side
-
@bailesjs its actually closer to 90 feet. Thats if the ship is sitting tied to the pier. At sea, if you are at the bottom end of a swell it can be over 100' to the ocean. Guessing, the ship looks to be going through 40 to 50 foot swells. You want to experience zero g. go to the bow of the ship on the 03 level. lol fun

I was on a Frigate and we would have been F#@CKED in those seas. I always hated the carrier guys when we were on plane guard and we were getting hammered and the carrier was barley moving.

Does anyone know the freeboard of the USS Kitty Hawk?
-
If the US Navy doesnt want that jet, I'll have it!
-
Only half of the carrier full air wing fits inside the hangars
Funny...never thought of freeboard on an A/C carrier, never used the word gunnel either. I really couldn't tell you, I was on the Kitty Hawk for a while, I just know it's a long way from the flight deck to the water. I would bet it's at least 60' and that is being conservative in my estimation.

Is salt water bad for an F-18? Do you have to rinse them off?

Saltwater is bad for anything made of any sort of metal. Airlplanes at sea are washed no less than every 14 days, usually more often if water is available and they're in a "wash spot".

what foot seas were these

Being that it's the Kitty Hawk, I would guess 40 - 50'.

Does the Navy always call a boat, a vessel or ship? I know the army would have kittens if you call a gun a gun, instead of riffle or weapon.

It seems the Navy uses the term ship, but for those of us that actually had to live on them...it's just a boat.
