@hogsandhercs Well, very good then. I met Gary Powers in Los Angles when he was flying helicopters for
KGIL and KNBC. During the early part of my career with the USPS i worked as a ConCon driver that took me into the airport areas of LAX and Burbank. Our pick up and delivery terminal was just down from where the news helicopters were serviced and my coworker and I would wander down the flight line and visit some of the shops while we waited for our pick ups to arrive. That's where I met him
@Postie218 sorry i ran out of space. so growing up when i had to do history reports i would get the interview the pilots that flew the missions. they were a great bunch of people and watched me grow up. Like i say powers was a good friend of my grandfathers when my grandfather left the classified U-2 program went to work for the NASA U-2 program Mr Powers still kept in touch with my grandfather. I wish I could have met him. But he was killed in 1977.
My grandfather was life support (takes care of the pressure suits) both with the air force and NASA. a lot of the original U-2 pilots that flew these missions went to work for Lockheed or NASA flying the NASA U-2. I grew up with my grandparents and I would always visit my grandfather's shop and i met a lot of the pilots. Powers was a very good friend of my grandfathers when Powers went to work for Lockheed. but the original pilots (russia days) were still flying the U-2 in the 80s with NASA
