@JoeyFudd @JoeyFudd It wasn't the captain's fault, do your damn research. The Stockholm's crew misinterpreted their radar, thinking the Doria was much farther than she was, 12 miles instead of 4 miles. The captain of the Doria turned to port, while the Stockholm turned starboard to pass port-to-port. There was thick fog, and neither ship used their radio. Before they could both act, the Stockholm smashed into the starboard side of the Doria, penetrating 40 feet into her. The rest is history.

@Edwynn12 Not really. Andrea Doria was an ocean liner, built for long distance transit. Costa Concordia was a cruise ship, meant to shutter passengers to different ports and destinations.

Also, the Doria was struck just forward of midships on the starboard side, Concordia was struck just aft of midships on the port side.

@Edwynn12 ehm to tell all the truth the whole cruising industry in the world is owned and ruled by Americans !! Sure the nutsy coward captain of Concordia was Italian and he's the main responsible of all this mess , but there were many other misfunctions on board of the ship such as many others are reported in several ships of Carnival Cruises

even before cpt Schettino collided with reefs !!

And to end the behaviour of crew of Andrea Doria is still an example for any cruise sailor

Andra Doria's captain had to see the most beautiful and luxury ship ever built sink despite he had been making all actions in the most proper way to avoid it !!

And of course with such an impact the ship sunk : it was the safest ship in the age , all 46 people died because of the impact as they were occupying the cabins directly hit by the Stockholm's prow !!

Andrea Doria's commander acted upon protocol and did everything showing amazing skills, as stated by all naval experts !!

The truth is that Stockholm was helmed by a young unexperienced 3rd officer who made the ship go off course and kept on missing any successive manouevre causing the collision !!

The Costa Concordia accident eerily reminds me of the Andrea Doria tragedy, both grand ocean liners, both Italian, both hit on almost the same spot on the same side, only diff; Andrea was hit by the Stockholm while Costa hit the reef after a foolish mistake by her captain, how sad and weird!
