A quick blast thru the gears with an all-original 1970 ZR1. The ZR1 was Zora Duntov's last high-compression Corvette designed specifically for SCCA class B racing. The ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package consisted of the 350/370hp LT1 solid lifter engine stuffed into an L88 prepped chassis which includes: M22 HD 4spd, F41 springs, shocks & spindle struts, HD Aluminum Radiator, Lightweight flywheel/clutch combo, J50/J56 Dual pin front brake calipers, HD Posi-Traction (4.56:1 in this case), as well as high-torque starter. ZR1's could not be ordered with a radio, or power accessories. Deluxe interior and tilt/tele column were the only "options" permitted. The ZR1 was the last production Chevrolet to be sold with the warning: "Not recommended for normal driving situations."

  • No the vin does not show that its a special car,But it will show up on the corvette registry if its special .

fyi Ive owned two special vette in the past

tri power 69 and a 65 fuelie convertable

  • @SPEEDFREAK200008 Quick correction - the article on the car appeared in the October '09 issue of Corvette Fever, not Vette Magazine... (Vette took over for Corvette Fever when they shut down a couple months ago...). A '69 tripower and a fulie mid-year; both cars i'd love to have! The ZR1 is listed in the ZR1/LS6 the registry (there's no formal registry, only a couple Corvette afficianados who keep track of these cars, but are well known in the Corvette community).

  • ONE THING I HATE WHEN SOME 1 THAT OWNS A VETTE HAS TO RESORT TO BS OF WHAT THE CAR IS..SORRY THIS IS DEF NO REAL ZR1..PLEASE TAKE A PICTURE WITH YOUR VIDEO CAMERA OF THE VIN #..EITHER THAT OS STOP LYING ON YOU TUBE .

  • @SPEEDFREAK200008 Hey Speedfreak - Check out the October '09 issue of Vette magazine, or search Google with the key words "1970 ZR1 Vette magazine" and read the article about the car. FYI, VIN's do not show whether or not a C3 was optioned with the ZR1 Special Purpose Engine Package. But you are right about VIN's and '72 LT1's - they did designate the LT1 option. Thanks for posting!

  • What the hell?

That Corvette didn't even catch up to the mid size compact or the small pickup

I'm NOT impressed to say the least

    PS: I'm a previous owner of (2) Corvettes a 1964 365 HP and a 1999 345 HP

  • Nice collectors Vette you have . I have a 1970 built 454 cid motor to 550 h.p / 600 tq. . , 4 speed, 336 rear which gives me L88 engine performance...darn scary thru the entire rpm band but especially low down . Ive got the Bright Blue interior as well. I give it a good run each weekend .

  • Why can't people simply research before making assumptions? You are on the internet when you use You Tube, it's not that hard to do, and yes they did have a ZR-1 package on the early C3's, but it's designation was slightly different, e.g. ZR-1 vs ZR1, Just like the old 350's that were called LT-1 vs LT1. Stop, look it up (you are on the internet after all) think about what you are gonna say, then post before you make yourself look like an uninformed fool.

  • Gm needs to start letting us decide what we want on our cars they would sell more.

Not everyone wants power everything or nanny devices driving the car for us.

Until then I wont buy one, too much to go wrong.

  • @1355550

By the early '90s, Chevrolet introduced the Gen II small-block in high-performance cars beginning with the Corvette. First known as the LT1 and later the LT4, the Gen II featured new, low-friction internal components and reverse-flow cooling to facilitate the most powerful small-blocks since the musclecar era. When this engine first appeared in the '92 Corvette as an LT1, it developed 300 hp. This engine featured revised cylinder heads.

  • @surrynet they had small block solid lifter engines in 1970...It wasn't specific to the ZR-1 as you could get an LT-1 vette...but with rpo ZR-1, you got many upgrades, and less creature comforts...so you're half right...the 90-95 ZR-1 did have a specific engine for that Rpo, as does the ZR1 of current...but things were different back in those days...you could pretty much have whatever you wanted within reason...now you get package deals...no more individual checkboxes of yore...times of change

  • @1355550 Exactly, there is some differences between an LT1 and a ZR1 engine. The 780 LT1 used leaded fuel hench it had leaded valve seats, whick the ZR1 doesn't use leaded fuel and it doesn't have leaded valve seates. I'm not saying this particular engine has the same as the TRUE early LT1 did. You tend to learn these things after working for GM for some odd years.

  • @surrynet

yes they did its called an LT-1

  • NICE ! ! ! ! !

  • I think you need to get a new tach, it's bouncing up and down worse than a baby on daddy's knee
