Over the weekend I helped my in-laws at the auction of Floyd Nelson near Finlayson, Minnesota. Floyd had passed away in June of 2007. His loving wife, Carol, had passed three years earlier. Floyd was my wife's uncle. He was a good man, husband, farmer and school bus driver. He and Carol had no children, hence, they had no one to take over the farm so it was put up for auction. It was sad to see a lifetime of labor, possessions and memories disappear at the strike of an auctioneer's gavel. The song, "Ashokan Farewell" written and performed by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. • My children rode on Floyds bus for years. He was always eating peanuts!! Great guy.

  • yes very sad. this sort of event is also taken place only to often here in wales uk. not the fact that they dont have children but the fact that there children have gone to big money jobs in the big cities and refuse to return to the land were the money is tight but the lifestyle is rewardind when you deliver livestock to the world there is no feeling like it belive me.i hope this land is being farmed again with the sound of children playing in the backround without farmers theres no future.fact

  • Wow, as a farmer . . . you put together a real heart string puller . . . great work. Lets not forget those who worked the land.

  • Wow, very nice video. Great job! Thank you! Bret C

  • nice video but sadd let them r.i.p

  • The funny thing is the owner of this tractor now live down the street from me and is very friendly neighbor. I have hims some tomatoes and basil plants. and I think I recognised that dog in the video to be his dog :) The farm I own has an equaly tragic story and I offer support to who ever made this video as it helps I think.

  • I grew up in Finlayson and Floyd & Carol were wonderful people. I helped Floyd make hay a couple summers and he was wonderful to work for. He still used that thrashing machine on his oats, he said the straw was much better than from a combine. The Oliver 99 tractor at 4:33 used to belong to us, Floyd bought it from my dad. Very sad video, Floyd & Carol both died way too young.

  • great job thanks!

  • Thanks ''HemiHotRod'' for your words.

    Best Regards.
