Robotech is a combination of three animes...Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospeada.
Based on that....Macross came first before its being integrated into Robotech.

I just remembered. the fools at harmony gold had this game remade for the gba some years ago.This version still looks vastly superior to the robo version.

technically speaking, in US Macross == Robotech
but Robotech =/= Macross
