red hermit crab: Hermit crabs are one of the most important invertebrates in the reef tank. They are best kept in a reef tank, and will require special care in a fish only setting.
Hermit crabs get rid of virulent algaes that can become plague like in some tanks. They also remove harmful detritus from the substrate, and aid in cleaning up the tank. If there isn't enough algae to go around, feed your hermit crabs dried algae (don't get salted and spiced stuff).
Hermit crabs are fairly peacful, and can be kept in groups. Please note that certain types such as staghorn hermit crabs and sponge hermit crabs cannot be kept in a reef tank. Get as much possible information before getting your hermit crabs.
It is advisable to keep hermit crabs in a tank of over 15 gallons, as to give room to roam.
These hermit crabs aren't the same kind as their land cousins. They will die if left out of the water. Monitor hermit crabs to make sure there isn't too many or too few for your tank setup.
Also, as with all invertebrates, do not put these with invertebrate eating fish.
LFS means local fish store. These aren't my fish unfortiunantly.

Yeah they do best in larger tanks. But they do sell out fairly quickly, which is good.
