The calculus of unsustainability
.
Sustainability is a squishy term—and difficult to operationalize for public policy
.
Perhaps the underlying problem is the public’s lack of understanding about material stocks and flows, integrals and derivatives, i.e., the calculus of unsustainability. In the U.S., we simply do not seem to get it.

@eagle1O9 That scenario would be if Earth's climate wasn't being altered by extremely high emissions of CO2 caused by humans. But, the opposite of your scenario is bound to happen if immediate action is not taken.

the earth's temperature is supposed to stabalize and slowly fall over the next 3 decades
@failurbanik Summer Arctic sea ice is expected to be GONE in 5-20 years. Average temp. rise estimates for this century are +1C - 5C (MIT estimates =+3.5 -7.4C).
It depends on how much climate feedback mechanisms, like ocean warming & methane release kick in.
Different models predict different scenarios. No one actually knows.

Average Global Temperatures SPIKED +0.6C (+1.08 degrees F) since 1975.
Summer Arctic Sea Ice has dropped -50% since 1980.
Since 1950 atmospheric CO2 has spiked +30% over highest levels in 400,000+ years.
CO2 Ocean Acidification is up +30% since 1900!
