Please, no Freudian analysis - I'm allergic.

Brigitte Bardot tried to buy film rights.

This is the latter part of the story. You can find the whole thing here:

And some analysis here:

And more analysis here which shows just how wrong people can be - er - I mean what a range of interpretation is possible:

  • cant wait to find out the ending, pretty dark so far

  • @elstroshitnonstop I'm afraid that is the ending. The part I didn't read was the beginning, but all the essential information is contained in this part - in my opinion.

  • All of my favorite pieces are on your channel. This amazes me more and more every day.

  • would someone explain this story to me?

  • this story is great. I love every thing Salinger did. Spoken Verse. You have to do us all a favor and put more Salinger on

  • @SpokenVerse It's either that, or that Muriel and her mother are simply too annoying to be read ;)

  • the young girl came to see him his veins remained soft and his heart a gentle murmur of oxygen rather than a coursing fire of blood his manhood remained soft and supple he was a tender tip of aspargus rather than the firm and fertile root and he took her to see what was not at the bottom of the sea yet she could saw it for she was young and still able to witness beauty even if it might lie naturally outside of the story he went home and pulled the trigger by icarus williams
  • clarifying: i wish i could clarify but nothing i'm trying to write comes out clear.

  • This was a wonderful piece.

Would you consider reading stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald? I think "The Diamond As Big As The Ritz" or "Babylon Revisited" would make for wonderful reads. And I'm unsure if you'd be willing to do this, but would you consider doing episode readings of "The Great Gatsby"? It would attract lots of viewers plus Fitzgerald's words are so... magical.

  • It has become cliché to use terms like "sparse dialogue" and "teasing mystery" when commenting on Salinger, yet those terms are so perfect for this enticing little story. It was so perfectly luxurious to lean back, close my eyes, and listen to you read to me this delicious story with it's abrupt ending. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • yes!!!...this just makes me want to exalt a big old "YES!!!"...thank you for doing this one

  • This was such a great short story. We just read this in my creative writing class. You have a great voice and it was very wonderful to hear you read!

I don't know if you've already done this, but do you think you could read "I wondered lonely as a cloud" by William Wordsworth? It's short but its one of my favorites! I think it would be really cool to hear you read it.

    Thanks! :D
