Sacramento, CA -- Past state legislation allowed the City of Salinas to purchase a building from the State Armory. The legislation stipulates that the building must be used to build a police station. However, since the legislation was enacted, the City has a greater need to build a police station at another location. Instead, the City of Salinas would like to use the former armory as a recreation hall that would provide after school programs for children. The Police Activities League or PAL received a grant to facilitate new proposed use. California Assemblymember Anna Caballero (D-Salinas) has authored Assembly Bill 815 to amend the prior legislation and allow the former armory to be used for the new purpose.
