Abandoned mine shaft in Delamar, NV

Delamar, Nevada, nicknamed The Widowmaker, is a small abandoned city in a very remote central part of Nevada. It was once a thriving gold operation, but was ruined by its own dry-mining process which killed its residents and caused the mine to close permanently. Because of the dry-mining process and its resulting fatalities, at one time there were over 400 widows living in Delamar, earning the town its nickname The Widowmaker.

After the turn of the century, gold production slowed and by 1902 many of the town's residents had moved on to the new boom town of Tonopah, Nevada. Not long after, Delamar died for good.

The lower levels were amazing! There's a cart down there you can ride on and massive square set timbers. The shaft we went down connected to only 1 of the other shafts and I haven't been down the other one yet, but I'll be back.

nice! We camped out at the windowmaker mine two years ago, and some of those on that trip were just back there a few months ago. Saddly, because we're roadtripping from the midwest, we can't fit in our rope gear. But it is a pretty nice mine! What were the lower levels like? Did you also get across that indoor-cliff type area to the (I believe) south of this shaft?
