Richard Shireby plays the 1877 Conacher tracker pipe organ in the workshop of Ireland-Shireby church organ builders (Lincolnshire, UK) as the organ nears the completion of it's restoration.

This item was recorded off the workshop's internal CCTV system as an experiment & an alternative of using a camcorder. Sound is recorded through a pair of Shure SM57 microphones. All the cameras are Sony, and fed through a Panasonic digital video mixer.

  • How wonderful. Any time we can "discover" an Advent hymn, it's helpful. Thanks to your talent and posting, I found this treasure in our hynmal. Keep posting your music.

  • Glad you discovered it. When you start looking through a hymnbook, it amazes me what a low percentace of them I know & use....and I know about 1500!

  • That's a nice sounding instrument. What is the specifacation? I have been listening to all the pieces recorded on the organ, and it's so pleasing to the ear. Hope you post many more! Scott B.

  • You will find it on the National Pipe organ register (NPOR), but quickly, it's:-

Gt. Open Diapason 8, Stopped diapason 8, Dulciana 8, Flute 4, Principal 4, Fifteenth 2

Sw Open diapason 8, Hohl flute 8 (chimney flute), Gemshorn 4, Oboe 8

    Pedal 16

usual 3 couplers, 2 compo pedals to gt & ratchet swell pedal.

    All tracker action, including pedals.

  • This is good,we have never sung this yet ! its in H&Ps,no.249,its a true Advent hymn dont you think ?

  • I don't recall ever having had it either!

Please let me have your address again as I will send you a DVD of last Sunday's carol service at Welby. I don't often play there & it's a 1-manual Forster & Andrews. Though I was battling with a pedal cipher.

  • I Love this song! :) I played it this morning on my trumpet with a couple other brass players, through our village stopping at houses. Waking everyone up bright and early at 6:30 for the First of Advent :)

I love the Organ, but its a lil fast for my taste! ;)
