Passing the Dream Act would have been amazing for me. I came to the US with a tourist visa when I was 9 because the embassy wouldn't give me a permanent visa. I went to school here, my parents do pay taxes, and now I'm in college but I can't major in what I want to without residency. I also can't work legally which is what I want to do. I'm a decent person, I'm educated, and hardworking and I hate that people like me have lost this opportunity to become residents and citizens.

@prek2phd i meant CIS students (but only qualified ones), but still my goal is to skip the Master's, and go straight to Ph.D. And, you're 46 I see, 3 sons, and retired soldier. Wow. O.K. I gotta go, so cya.
-
@prek2phd no, Computer Information Science can skip the Master's program and can go directly to the Ph.D program.

@xBl00dBrothersX I am 46, retired military and 3 sons. Be certain to not skip the Masters program enroute to your Ph.D.

@prek2phd yeah no doubt. I say the bill should only be for the students, and should take away their ability to legalize family members or bring into the country more immigrants. If the bill limited that ability more Americans and the Republican Party. The bill as it is now, it won't pass, everybody knows it. It needs to be changed no doubt. I'm a bit tired of this issue now. Well, in grad school, I can meet a hot American chick and well she can give them to me too ^^.

@xBl00dBrothersX of course I'll also need very high GRE scores... good luck to me, and good luck to you getting your Ph.D too. And by the way, how old are you? I'm 19.

@prek2phd after I finish my B.S. in C.I.S. I plan to do directly for my Ph.D at NYU (i'll need a full scholarship which will be very very very tough to get). It is much tougher for me because I am undocumented? It shouldn't be that way when my mom paid taxes ever since she came to the U.S. I dont' need federal help now, but hundreds of thousands out there do, and the help they need is immediate. I'll try my best to win a scholarship for grad school, and if not, I wont' be able to continue my edu

@xBl00dBrothersX Expect extreme resistance to legalizing their family members, that is a major sticking point.

@xBl00dBrothersX America needs engineers, not more social workers. You are an engineering student as we speak. Do you really estimate degree completion in 4 years.

@xBl00dBrothersX Please take the time to read H.R. 6497 SEC 4. (1)(D)(ii) "has earned a high school diploma or obtained a general education development certificate in the United States". That is a direct quote that you are encouraged to dispute with another quote from H.R. 6497 dated 07 December 2010.
@PatriotSue the only reason why you say that is because you've never had it happen to you. imagine living your entire life here (because it was not your choice, your parents had brought you), gone to school, learned the language, got good grades.. only to find out later that you cannot get a drivers license. and then later on you find out that you cannot get into college. so all those years of hard work hitting the books were in vain. how would YOU feel? its not those kid's faults they r illegal

Every illegal immigrant should remember that it was politics that ruined their "Dream". If the Democrats were not trying to mint new Democratic votes for 2012, the Dream Act would have passed. If it was targeting kids that have grown up in America and attended our school from K-12, and graduated with good grades (no GEDs), then the Act would have passed. Instead, Democrats were eager to print new green cards with "Democrat 2012" stamped on the back. Who should they really blame?
