A fun montage of classic titles to 1970s and 80s schools programmes from ITV. Just part of my vast collection. It includes clips from "Experiment", "Leapfrog", "Seeing and Doing", "Stop, Look, Listen", "How We Used To Live", "A Place To Live", "Good Health" and "The English Programme".

  • Does anyone out there remember the name of the schools programme from either the 70s or 80s that had a time-lapsed sequence in the intro depicting the seasons? I really remember a snowman melting, a chick hatching, and some fruit going rotten. Very odd, stuck with me all these years but can't find any reference for it anywhere. Any ideas?

  • i dont suppose you have any of the FILM AND VIDEO SHOWCASE , episodes they where on the schools programmes like these in the early 90s, it had georgy spanswick as the presenter , it was all amature films and things i have tryed to find it everywhere.

  • The very first clip, 'Experiment', was the inspiration for the spoof series, 'Look Around You', which encaptulated the general gloomy, seriousness of science programmes back in the late 70's/early 80's.

  • Does anybody remember a schools programme from the 70s or 80s that had a time-lapsed sequence in the intro that signified the seasons? A snowman melting, a chicken hatching... things like that? I remember that really clearly, but I don't know where to start searching as I can't remember the programme's name.

  • Wow - now watching these truly is mind tripping. I havent seen these for decades. Im 39 now and remember watching some in Infant and some in junior school. And of course, unlike other mainstream TV programmes of that era, these havent been widely repeated.

I do wish they'd repeat "how we used to live" (That theme tune is so haunting) because even at 9 or 10 I remember thinking it should have been on in the evening - it was that good!

Thanks for sharing - 30 years since I last saw these! wow!

  • @JoeScaramanga it was watching How We Used to Live during the 80's while dossing off from hig school that got me into the beatles. There is an episode when this hippy guy is getting it in the ear from his folks. I remember thinking how dull everything was in the '80's and I though, I'll have a bit of that '60's action in stead. Never looked back. I loved that programmee, still do I suppose.

  • I had no idea How We Used to Live went that modern.

And that theme really reminded me of something else, but I can't think what...

  • I remember this in the infants

  • Interesting. Exactly what was the function of that strange looking machine right at the start?

  • Blimey! I forgot about Seeing And Doing, Leapfrog & A Place To Live. Thank you very much for collecting some wonderful thought provoking childhood memories!!
