"Akira" is a 1988 animated epic created, written and directed by Katsuhiro Otomo. The English version of the film stars the voice talents of Johnny Yong Bosch, Joshua Seth, Wendee Lee, Jamieson Price, Sandy Fox, Michelle Ruff, Simon Prescott, Mike Reynolds and Bob Buchholz. A secret military project endangers Neo-Tokyo when it turns a biker gang member into a rampaging psionic psychopath that only two kids and a group of psionics can stop.

I actually remember seeing this in the theater. I didn't understand a thing that was happening. But I remember walking out being totally in awe of the animation.

Im my opinion they are equal in a way evan we couldnt fathom. dragoballz is still in production and tys are flying of the shelves. And Akira is evan getting another movie(TETSUO PLLEEEEEEEEEASE kill those hollywood jackasses) If you think about it they are both equal in evryway possible. evan they have there draw backs(DBz WAS TO FUCKING LONG!, and Akira MADE ALMOST NO SENSE!) but stil there popularity is off the charts. The're both just.......AMAZING!

@Eljonno Dagonball was good til the end of Freeza arc. Everything After that is overated in dragonball i THINK.
And the DBZ ANIME SUCKED, only the dragonball manga was good.

guys both akira and dragon ball are amazing. they were both responsible for popularizing anime/manga in the west. while opinions may vary on which is better, comparing them seems a bit absurd. they're both totally different but they're both legendary.
