@1xClementinex1 Slaves brought the dance to the island. It was their form of expression when slave masters gave them the day off for New Year and Boxing Day. Nobody really knows where the costumes came from. Most likely inspiration from West Indies.

I never understood the Gombeys. Being from Brasil and seeing the samba schools and actually getting together with buddies and playing some samba together but...the Gombeys? Growing up in Bermuda as a young child (10) I never got it.

Back in the day they danced much better with all kinds of acrobats and such. The music never changes though, we used to follow them all over the island, Love them. Awesome! Thanks!

My dad (Wayway) used to play the drums in the Gombeys, back then they would use a whip to clear the crowd, they scared me to death when i was a kid, with the mask and all. Its a beautiful thing now that I'm grown. Thanks for sharing
Oh I'm homesick now!! I wanna go home! *sob*

Some how when we are "there" we do not want to be "here"!

lol Yup. I seem to appreciate where I'm from more now that I'm not there, but that may change if I go back. :-)
