Members of the media asked Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng to comment on the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Razak about the free email to be give to all Malaysians.

CM Lim said, 'Give free wi-fi, not free email. What's the point of free email when we can get them from Yahoo, Google and Hotmail?' He also expressed his concerns regarding privacy issues.

The short press conference was held after the ceremony to hand over RM1.75M to 28 Tamil schools in Penang in the form of instituitionalised allocation whereby money is disbursed according to needs.

  • this free email for 50 mil thing is completely ridiculously!

This is a retarded project, it stinks of corruption and invasion of privacy

  • @ykcnatalie Najib screwed us up.

  • @chiahs1 wifi = wireleess lan ,means it still uses the internet, ergo a web-based application (web-based email), and not using ur direct phone line (for calls, sms, gprs, edge) , no different from accessing the internet with a laptop / tablet / pc . When you oppose the gov, its easier to look on the bad side of things, only time will tell if this project will be a failure, give it time, Im sure the gov now understand full well not to mess with public funds...

  • @Drpsikoman Most of my credit card statements are fwd to my 'free email acc' like gmail. I didnt see any privacy prob here, Gov can back commercial Gmail/hotmail/yahoo or Lotus Notes, right?

FYI most handphone has Wifi, mine has :)

I dont rate this project as a necessary.....

  • @chiahs1 first everybody fears of privacy issues , but now they don't mind if the government has their own gmail..? if ur gmail gets spammed won't you blame the government then...? handphone number doesn't make any sense since those info they are sending would be in big amounts, email is just fine, maybe the gov wants u to print your own summons... save papers, save the environment, or transfer it to ur smartphone or pendrive

  • @Drpsikoman why cant they send those information to my gmail, how about dedicate handphone number in future?

  • Hai all.Bahgah! That is a good news for Penangese.Good job for that.hope it can also be implemented in Selangor also. ;)

This email project has become 'hangat isu' for the past 2 weeks. But im sure just like other past issue in Malaysia it will then slowly disappear or become less interested cuz that is so Malaysian Style. Just like the saman issue and etc. We have now see both the Gov. (Pemandu) and TriCube explaining the real situation. Next step is to see the return for this invesment.

  • The more TriCube explain the more i see idiots dancing around like monkeys. He is gonna charged us per email send of less then RM0.50/mail and they are negotiating with hotmail to get mass free accounts!!. . Last time the draculars only comes out at midnight, now they even comes out daylight. You Bloody Suckers!!!

  • i dont want free wi-fi !!! give me corei7 with nvidia gtx580 desktop, i will vote for bn for years

  • Since after Dato Seri Mahathir.. There is no way for me to elect BN. Najib is the most sucks PM ever..
