Railroads run in all types of weather, from a beautiful spring day to pounding snow. Western Maryland 734 pulls a mixed freight over the Allegheny Mountains on a January 30, 2010, photo freight sponsored by Carl Franz.
The train is seen at a variety of locations along the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, including the famous Helmstetters Curve. Hear the whistle echo through the mountains and feel the earth shake as the finest tourist railroad on the East Coast puts on an incredible show.
In one week, the entire region will be blanketed by the worst blizzard in 50 years, but the fresh falling snow on this day resulted in some spectacular winter vistas.

This must've been around the time the whistle was switched from the thunderous Hancock 3-chime to the B&O 5-chime. That was then taken off for her orginial (original afer restoration) Western Maryland 3-chime and now wears an Illinois Central Steamboat (3-chime) whistle.

@RealJeep The caboose was on the train in the morning but developed brake problems and was dropped on a siding in the narrows after one or two runbys. The crew at the WMSR shops brought it back to the yard and had it fixed and ready to go the next morning.

Simply awesome vids, never get to see them in pristine snow like that. Would have been nice to see a caboose following the train home.

Very nice. Next time tilt up so the locomotive is towards the bottom of the frame and exhaust is more prevalent. Look at period footage form the steam era and you will see what I am referring to. A lit kerosene switch lamp on a switch stand or two would also add greatly. Nice job. Stay warm.
