@taximartin The restriction on the existing M8 eastbound access from the south side (which is unrelated to the M74 Completion scheme) will remain because of the benefits derived, in terms of reduced number of weaving accidents on the bridge.
Thanks

I can't believe it's taken this long to do this project. I've always thought it strange that almost ALL the traffic on the M74 has to move to the M73 and THEN onto the M8, and the M74 just kind of ENDS at Tollcross...

transportscotland, currently when joining the M8 westbound from the South Side via West St, Kingston all traffic heading west must exit the Kingston Bridge on the North Side and travel up North St to rejoin the M8 at Charing -X as barriers have been in place to prevent traffic from crossing onto the west bound lanes of the M8.
Will this new extension of the M74 mean that all lanes heading West on the M8 Kingston Bridge will be opened up to traffic joining from West St?
What will be the first date vehicle traffic will be allowed on the new M74? And what will happen to the junction numbers? Surely they all need to be renumbered...
Thanks

@tip2tail The M74 will be open to traffic on 28th June.
New junction numbers will be as follows: the Kingston Junction (with M8 Motorway) will be Junction 1; Polmadie Rd junction will be Junction 1A; and Cambuslang Road junction will be Junction 2. Fullarton Road junction will change to Junction 2A.
Additionally, the existing junctions at Carmyle Avenue and Daldowie will change to 3 and 3A respectively. Maryville Junction will remain Junction 4.

When the East Kilbride Bypass was completed, it opened for 1 day for cyclists and joggers to do a 10K on it in aid of a Cancer Research Charity. Are there plans to open the new section of the M74 for a similar event before it's officially opens for regular road traffic?

@djwindhoek In advance of the June opening of the motorway, a charity event is provisionally planned for 22 May. This will involve walkers, runners and cyclists.
The plan is to start and finish the event at the west end of the new motorway and take participants onto the motorway to do an “out and back” walk, run or cycle to Polmadie Road (4 km route) or over the full length to Fullarton Roundabout (14km route).
It's likely to be limited to 20,000 participants, website will have full details.

@transportscotland Thanks for the reply. Are the 4KM and 14KM distances each way i.e. the total will be 8KM and 28KM respectively?
djwindhoek 11 months ago
@djwindhoek The 4KM and 14KM figures represent the total distances covered and not just in one direction.
Thanks
