The oil thing and the credit market blow up are different things though. It is my understanding that is was the japanese trying to dump Lehman bonds en masse ( once they caught wind of how screwed up things really were) that caused the domino effect. One thing I do know. Soros made a fortune while the rest of the world got crushed. If anyone pushed any dominos it was him and his cohorts. In the end i think all the relationships are too complicated for a simple explanation

I met a guy 14 mos ago in San Antonio. He is a manager for Exxon. He told me after several drinks that the oil move was completely contrived. He said he attended meetings where they specifically told him ( before the spike to 150)that the price of oil would go to 150 in short order and then it would crash to around 45 at which time they expected to start buying up smaller players who would at that point be crippled due to the radical price correction...then oil will climb again to 100++++
