Harv plays this on JTV all the time-nice.

They had to make this movie with the gorilla being the hero because nobody liked the ending of king kong

That's my Dad, the Bandleader announcing "the one and only Max O'Hara". He was in lots of movies, but this was his only speaking part.

well, it's Thanksgiving morning and i've been looking all over the net for king kong, son of kong and mighty joe young streaming online. growing up on Long Island in the late 70's and early 80's those three movies have always been a thanksgiving favorite. thanksgiving morning was always the parade and the three giant gorilla movies!!

I think that this is the best of the three classic ape movies. King Kong is too depressing. Also, this had the better of the remakes. There I said it, too bad pete jackson, too bad.

@GeneralZodFDNY77 - What is it about Thanksgiving Day afternoon and the the "Kongs/Mighty Joe Young" trilogy? They did the same thing in Cleveland in the 60s. I could never decide if I was more grateful for the Thanksgiving Dinner or the "Big Gorilla Fest." -- Probably the latter:) These many years later, I, too, get a bit misty-eyed at this scene from "Mighty Joe Young." Thanks to whoever posted this clip.

I truly love this movie

To this day, I can't hear "Beautiful Dreamer" and not think of this movie. And I still get a little misty eyed thinking of this scene. Great moment from a great film of a bygone era in cinema. And those of us who grew up in the NYC area recall those great Thanksgiving Day afternoons. When WOR-TV, channel 9, would show three classics back to back to back. The REAL King Kong (1933) at noon, Son of Kong at 2pm, and of course Mighty Joe Young at 4pm. Thanks for the post, and the memories.

When I saw this film on Turner Classic Films this past Thursday, the US almost went into default, the stock market lost nearly 1000 points, our economy is in dysfunction, our law making body acts like spoiled children, and 31 soldiers died in a helicopter attack over Afghanistan.
Then you watch a scene like this and it reminds you how Hollywood can remind you of just how beautiful the world can really be.
this wasmy FAVORITE movie when i was little. when i was three we got a puppy and i MADE my family name him joey!! he's thirteen now.

When I was a little kid in the 60's, my brothers and sisters and I would always get choked up watching this scene. Then we'd cry later when the burning tree fell on him. Thanks for the memory.
