Was that the diaphone from the Aviation Hose Company of the Bronx or Edgewater Park? I am pretty sure that Edwater Park had a diaphone horn as well as a Model 2... not sure what Aviation had.

Since you got it working without the horn, it would be interesting to measure the sound level in dBC with and without the horn from a distance of 100 feet. This would give us a good indication of the directivity index of the horn by how much it increases the SPL on axis. It would also be interesting to do the same tests on a Thunderbolt siren.

Spinning is just an effect of vibration. Diaphones are a unique type of horn which uses an air-driven piston to generate sound.

it uses a diaphram in side a preasure placed 1/4 mm over a hole when air is added to the inlet port this causes a resonating effect
