Ashley Judd Is a Hero

Acclaimed actress Ashley Judd has received the fourth annual USA Today Hollywood Hero Award for her humanitarian work. The star, who is currently in school, was thrilled to be nominated but worried about falling behind on her lessons. (Nov. 11)

Hero? What is she doing? If it is getting the US gov't to send money to Africa, then this doesn't help Africans unless you count the African tyrants who get rich from the aid. These tyrants aren't moved to change their people's lives for the better, because they thy would not get the aid for themselves.

Well, America has a very long history of supporting tyrants and dictatorships as long as they do what America wants them to do. It wouldn't do America much harm to send little money or food to the poors of the the 3rd world, that's called PR. America consumes 70% of the world's resources, giving up 1% is not a big deal.

Did you mean: "so she is a heroin *of* African tyrants"? The word, hero, has changed meaning over the years. It used to mean someone who made great sacrifices for others. Today it is synonymous with star or celebrity.
