We were in Toronto for the Flash in the Can conference earlier this week and had the pleasure of meeting John Underkoffler, chief scientist at Oblong Industries.
Underkoffler, most known for his work on the user interface in Minority Report and its subsequent development into a working product, gave a keynote speech Tuesday, but we caught him earlier, on a panel, and grabbed him to chat about what he's up to, and the future of interface.
During a career at MIT that spanned nearly 15 years, Underkoffler worked as a science and technology adviser on films like The Hulk and Æon Flux, in addition to the adaptation of Philip K. Dick's classic story, which is still cited eight years later for its interface design. He was in Toronto to talk about some of his most recent work on gestural interfaces and the future of the operating system.
