Keit Pentus -- Minister of Environment of Estonia. The talk is titled „Too expensive/too dear". She starts with a personal story, recalling how as a child she tried to repair the damage done to the trees near her home, trees that were dear to her. Through this memory, she invites us to consider the reasons of safeguarding the environment, contrasting the emotional arguments with the pragmatic ones: preserving the nature simply because it is dear to us versus weighing the costs and benefits of protection. Using several examples, she argues that there is always a bill to pay for not caring and it is less expensive to protect and avoid the damage then try to repair it later. In conclusion, she appeals to everybody to convince at least one person with the help of this logic.

About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
