Bonzi's Bakfiets Ride

Sad to say that Bonzi passed away on March 23rd, 2011. We miss him dearly and are having a hard time believing he is gone. In the coming months we are going to spread his ashes in the various places he enjoyed going...such as the lake in the above video. Thanks for all the nice comments. On a nice Saturday morning, Cora and I rented a Bakfiets from Clever Cycles (http://www.clevercycles.com ) and took Bonzi for a ride. A Bakfiets is a Dutch cargo bike.

Our original plan was to rent two bikes and I would transport Bonzi in the Bakfiets and Cora would ride one of the other fancy Dutch bikes they had for rent. This didn't work out so well as you can see.

Todd from Clever Cycles suggested that Cora and Bonzi ride together in the front of the Bakfiets.

Bonzi wore his Doggles which are basically sunglasses for dogs. I think he grew to like the Doggles since they kept the wind out of his eyes and he received about 10000x more attention from people.

We (well, I) pedaled down the trail towards Sellwood.

Cora and I both commented on how the mental focus of the serious road bikers was no match for a cute dog wearing sunglasses riding on the front of a cargo bike. The road bikers would all have this very focused look on their face like they had been counting every heartbeat since they were five years old. They would suddenly see Bonzi and start laughing.

The song is "A Little Bit of Dread" by Tobin Sprout. (catchy tune, but this ride had no dread whatsoever!)

Well, I think that, but then tried getting him to ride in my bicycle trailer and he was having none of it once we got past walking speed.

I think he needs to go on a long run with me, get tired, and then see the "value added" bonus of riding on the trailer.

We're off to test a Bakfiets this morning. Now our 2 year old is say "I get dog for bakfiets bike".
