The Biology program at Farmington offers an exciting travel course each May Term: Tropical Island Ecology. The highlight of the course is an 11-day trip to the Caribbean island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. In 2008, 15 students (Biology majors and non-Biology majors alike) and Biology faculty Nancy Prentiss and Ron Butler traveled to the small Caribbean island where they stayed at the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station, a facility of the University of the Virgin Islands, operated by Clean Islands International. The course allows students to study the plants, animals, geology, climate, history and culture of St. John, resulting in a memorable and rewarding study abroad experience.
