-If you grow onions too close together they stay small like chives/green onions.
-It can work good to plant them close at fist though and thin them out as they grow so you always have some to eat.
-We started our in flats in the green house as you can start way more then you need pretty close together to get an early start. They don't really spread out until they get a certain hight.

Cause of the heavy clay soil our onions were flat on the bottom and they would push them selves out the top of the soil a little. The ones that couldn't push up ooked like disks=D

hehe, We were beside the mountain range so the city beside us comes with small planes to do flight training over the fields and along the hills.. Was very annoying all day but we got used to it.
