Scottish international boat angler Steve Souter joins his good friend Davy Holt for a days giant skate fishing. They are on board the Laura Dawn skippered by Ronnie Campbell. According to Steve, Davy is the best skate angler in the UK and Ronnie is the best charter boat skipper around so how can he go wrong? The answer is he can't and they don't. Giant skate are real monsters of the deep and it isn't easy to land them once hooked. Try to imagine pulling 200lbs through 500 feet of water. That's what Steve and Davy have to do. It can be back breaking stuff but very rewarding.

  • yup it's Davy :)

I had only ever seen the first film, though I must admit I prefer the second film as it shows a bit more of that one in a million day... it's not that often you get so many big fish in the one day especialy on camera.

  • Davy. Don't be shy and humble. Please pass on this link of the skate fishing to all your sea fishing buddies. I'm hoping you've got more fishing friends than just Mr Souter. hehehe

    I hope you're well.

  • biggest fish of the day was just over 200lb, it was also the first fish :) If I remember correctly there were another 5 fish caught over 170lb plus the baby that Stevie caught

  • You're right Thecatchalot (Is that you Davy?)

The day was so good that I made two films out of it. The first one showed the big skate you mentioned. This film was when Steve was actually in the studio and Keith and Steve chattted in the studio while looking at the pictures.

The first film had music on it and it will have to be removed before it can be shown on here.
