In the RG final 2011 between Fed and Nadal, Mary Carillo said that it was a statistical anomaly that federer was termed the GOAT because of his 8-17 record against Nadal, and the other commentators agreed. However, if you look at the surfaces on which those matches took place, 14 of the 24 matches were on clay. Nadal's got a huge advantage on that, especially with that being his best surface and that being Fed's worst surface. On surfaces other than clay, Fed is 6-4, so he is truly the GOAT
