  • Hello,

I have not received any training on metal clay other than what I read and I did watch videos here on youtube. I do have metalsmithing experience and that certainly helped, but this was my first metal clay project. I had never rolled metal clay prior to the video. I'm glad you thought so though. It's a great compliment!

  • Thank you , you explain in a very sample way all the steps to work in metal clay. Your work is very well done

  • U did great, thank u for making this film :) cute giraffe

  • Really great, I think you went over the top with the fun tools but that all let me see what I needed and what I didn't. I'm super cheap like that ;) Cute pendant, can't wait to make my own!

  • Nice job! Great beginner project - not too involved but uses the correct tools and illustrates the process well.

  • This is great! I am trying to find as much information as I can about metal clay work on YouTube before I get started. How much would you say you spent on your tools and things? Any particular brands or anything that you'd recommend (or not recommend)? What kind of kiln did you get? Thank you so much for your video!

  • When your brushing it, it's better to brush in all one direction. If you know you're going to do a thorough polishing on it later maybe you can afford to be lazy, but I cant tell you how bad uneven scratches make what should have been a charming piece look. Some pieces on Etsy make me wince they're so terribly scratched.

  • very good i have just bought some clay and a m going to try it out cant wait just waiting for my cutters and other materials

  • you can dunk it in cold water right away and it will be instantly handle-able....

  • Use a rubber block to file on, as your piece was paper thin.

Fire clay so thin on a fire block with a torch or on a camping stove with wire mesh for only 5 minutes at the most. Don't go ramping up an expensive kiln just for something small.

After patina is applied, use metal polish and a cloth to take off the areas that you don't want.

Air dry clay, it is cheap and eco friendly. Allow it to dry overnight in a warm room, never on a radiator as it will warp and partially burn off the binders.

  • thanks for this video, it was really helpful. i want to give metal clay a go but it seems so expensive.
