After countless times back and forth to the dealership, I finally caught it in action! After starting the car and driving for the length of a neighborhood cu-de-sac, the car went out AGAIN - after the dealership released the car to us and a call from Volkswagen of America saying that everything was fixed for the third time. The electrical panel lights up with somewhat random lights and the gear selector runs through a series of blinks and noises. The most dangerous part of it all - the car is still moving when this happens and there's no control from the gear shifter. These are some of the same components found in newer 2010 TDI cars.
Sometimes, turning off the car and restarting it helps, sometimes it doesn't - you can see why I would be so hesitant to keep from driving it. I was told before, by the dealer, to bring it in after an incident occured, as restarting the car clears the computer, so once it was towed straight to the dealer (VW paid for it). I now have had the car in and out TWICE since that has happened, and a total of FOUR times since this series of malfunctions began (which was the middle of November 2009) Correction: After searching the partial list of service logs our dealer provided us with it has come to out attention that we have been having electrical problem during our original manufacturers warrant y. I hear the Song-Beverly Warranty Act coming around the mountain especial since we tried to come to a mutually agreeable resolution with all parties before this point!
Has anyone has the same problem? Any solutions? Please leave a comment as a way to show Volkswagen of America that safety issues can't be kept hidden from the public.

  • Welcome to the world of vw's , had a 03 gti 1.8t and it had electrical problems like crazy

  • Dude gremlins...

  • Problems such as those you're describing, particularly the transmission issues, constituted my reasons for never buying a Volkswagen. My best advice is to write to VW of America, Inc. and buy a Toyota.

  • You ever get that fixed? Not a mechanic but it kind of looks like electrical issues, or a computer. I noticed you said you fastened your seatbelt which it didn't recognize. Get it towed to the dealership while its doing that and get the shop foreman and a tech out there to see if acting up. My mom's car 20 years ago had a computer going and would act up once it warmed up, one day she took it to the dealership while it was acting up, only way they'll fix it is if they see it happen.

  • Looks like you and your jetta have 'bad romance' hahah ahhhh fuckit. Fuck yo couch fool im drunk!!

  • Herbie is not happy with the GAGA

  • You have a serious costly tranny malfunction. The tranny went into failsafe mode to protect itself. The computer portion of the tranny (mechatronic) failed, the tranny temp sensor failed. You might have flywheel damage. Mine has 170K and this never happened. The mechatronic unit costs around $4K.
