The musical piece "Klintang" as composed by Dr. Ramon Santos got its inspiration from the kulintang which consists of a row of 5 to 9 graduated pot gongs, horizontally laid upon a frame arranged in order of pitch with the lowest gong found on the players left.
It is traditionally played by our kindred Islam friends of Southern Philippines, especially the Maranao and Maguindanao peoples. It is part of the larger gong-chime culture of Southeast Asia, especially of Indonesia and Malaysia.
The 1st part of the video is by the kulintang player Labaya Piang downloaded from YouTuber Melodigue : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tX4fo_UuZO4 Enzo played this recently at the University of the Philippines.

You're another Young Musical wonders in the making. In just three years you've shown mastery in piano techniques, classical and contemporary. Soon you'll be in the international limelight, competition, awards and concert. Hope to see you play when I visit my relatives in Laguna by January. One day I will see you play here in US and all over the world.
Glad that you saved your piano from the floods, thats scary ! Take good care of yourself Enzo, Albert

A great contemporary piece inspired by Labaya Piang's performance. It would be great to see the score, essay an analysis and ask the composer some questions. When on my visits to UP, I never got a chance to meet Dr. Santos, or see the Ethnomusicology collection. Was this the piece's premiere? WELL DONE!
