A few times back in 1982, I borrowed a super-8 camera from a friend who was studying film. I took a course or two in film school, and made a few short films. A few excerpts from those and some bits that ended up on the cutting room floor are all that I have left of them. The first one survives in its entirety and I'll post it one of these days. The second was completed but all that I have are the outtakes. The completed work is possibly still in a vault at Vanier College, to be discovered by someone someday, but most likely it was thrown out with a lot of other junk. The third Super-8 movie may still exist in the hands of a friend whom I haven't seen since 1988. He had a projector, you see. The fourth was never completed and I have all the makings of it on my hard drive now. Maybe I'll be brave enough to edit it digitally someday. So here are parts of "Amusement," "Influence Negative," and
"The Dance" used in making this video response. I don't believe consumer digital photography was available when this was shot, and the best home computers at the time were really great for word processing and playing games like PONG but not much else. The footage was shot ten whole years before I even heard of the Internet, and I've been on that for fifteen years. Where were you in '82?

  • Beautiful footage, Andy. A treasure of memories. Hey, we that were around can still do all those things--except look young. But then feeling young is more important than looking young. Again, great vid.

  • I'm feeling old at the moment. Cindy reminds me it's past my bedtime...

  • Great vid Fehqy - you look younger now than you did then - scarey stuff. I don't know why sometimes I get frightened!

  • Are you sure you weren't looking at my mother???

  • Oh, I forgot... Music: "I Got You" by Split Enz.
